Epistemological and semiotic discourse and aesthetics of formation in Islamic miniature

Professor Dr. Safa Lutfi has published a book titled “Epistemological and semiotic discourse and aesthetics of formation in Islamic miniature” by the Hamaliel Foundation for Media. The book that has 322 pages sheds light on Arabic and Islamic photography, specifically in the art of miniature. The book explained in details all aspects of the Arabic and Islamic photography based on the historical sequence of its origin, aesthetic features, and signs systems that associated with it and its epistemological and intellectual discourse, starting with the Baghdad School of Arabic and Islamic photography, whose brilliant success in that fertile stage of Arabic and Islamic history had an impact on what emerged from schools of photography (especially miniatures) in the Islamic world. These schools include: the Persian school, Indo-Mughal school, and Ottoman School. The Baghdad School of photography is considered one of the long standing schools that lived on the land of Baghdad seven centuries ago. The book was not limited to the plot of temporal dimension of history as much as it would be an invitation to meditate on the essence of that legacy and naturally urge it to appear in the horizon of contemporary culture to grant it the Impact and influence ability. Additionally, the international rapprochement brought about by the Arabic and Islamic civilization has left its clear impact on the way the Arabic and Muslim artist would deal with his/her subjects and methods in the art of photography, especially Miniatures. That way will lead this book to the study of schools of Arabic and Islamic photography represented in miniatures from an aesthetic point of view and at the same time it will be an attempt to extrapolate the experience of the Arabic and Muslim artist in the art of miniature.
