Prof. Dr. Safa Lutfi, Chairperson of the Patents and Industrial Design Exhibitions Committee at the Iraqi International Creativity and Innovation Forum, obtained a new patent. The invention employed one of the neglected Iraqi natural resources represented by the waste of the banana tree, which is thrown at the end of each planting season, as the basic material of the produced canvas is extracted from the waste of the banana tree. Thus, it is employed in the manufacture of an important industrial material, in addition to being an important textile product, and the study deals with a new method for producing this type of raw materials that are imported from outside Iraq and cost the country large sums of money, and from components available in the Iraqi environment at very low prices. As an industrial product, it can be used as a painting surface as well as in sails, tents, marquees and backpacks, as well as in fashion items such as handbags, electronics and shoes. In addition to its use as a raw material in the field of packaging as environmentally friendly and safe covers on the human health level, as this product is considered an important material. The prepared raw material, through laboratory tests, has proven its efficiency. In addition, it has a distinctive feature, which is that it provides an amount of fibers that establish an important textile industry.
